Invitation to Conference on Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Intellectual Property (IP)

The conference with the theme “IP helps SME to transform” will be conducted in English. The main objective of this conference is to promote awareness and provide latest information on IP to business community, for them to understand IP rights and the effects on their businesses. Most of the businesses and industries, especially SMEs, may not be aware of their significant IP rights. More importantly, they may be ignorant of the fact that IP rights play a pivotal role on their businesses. Hopefully, the Conference will also help to clarify various aspects of IP rights including the implementation and implications.

IP refers to the creations of mind, such as inventions, designs, slogan and names etc used in daily basis, while IP rights refer to the rights given to the person over the creations of their minds which include copyrights, trademarks, patents, industrial design rights etc. IP assets are the core value of a business, for instance the brand of a business is an example of IP especially for online business in this era of advanced technology. The brand is the trademark. People tend to recognize the brand followed by the products. This is one of the successful examples for branding. For those who are running an export business, protecting their intellectual assets is another important fact that they should really consider about.

In order to create awareness and understanding on the importance of Intellectual Property to members, in accordance with directive from Dato’ Lim Kok Cheong, President of ACCCIM, we are pleased to offer complimentary seats to members of Constituent Chambers to attend the Conference, while non-members will charge RM50 per person.
